Jack Arthur is the grandson of long-time members Jackie and Kenny West. Though not a member of Emerald Isle Baptist, our church played a fundamental role in the formation of his faith. He was baptized in our baptistry at the age of 17 by Rev. Freddy Braswell and helped with Vacation Bible School when he could.
Jack is responsible for the prayer bench and cross that sits behind the church beside the playground. He also mulched the area, added two flower bushes, and some lights. This initiative was part of his Eagle Scout project. His job was to design and then oversee the project. With the help of some fellow scouts, the project was completed in a few hours one Saturday afternoon. Jack wanted to offer something special to the church that was so important to his faith.
Jack stated that his time as a Scout taught him an appreciation for the outdoors. He also learned to take initiative and plan. His faith still informs his actions, and Jack continues to worship God through both prayer and his mind, serving others and the Lord. He will attend NC State in the fall to double major in biochemistry and Spanish. He would like to research water chemistry, particularly science related to the treatment of water for microplastics.
Jack said that every time he rides by the church, he reflects on how meaningful his project was to him and how grateful he is to have been able to contribute to EIBC through it.
